HELD

When You Are Ready

A Grief & Healing Journal for Women

A beautifully designed guided journal offering ninety gentle conversations, generous writing space, and room for grief to breathe.

Ninety guided conversations
by Carolyn Clansy Miller, Ph.D.

The premise

Grief does not keep a schedule.

There is no correct week to begin, and no week you are late for. HELD waits on the shelf without asking anything of you. When you are ready — tonight, or a year from now — it opens to a single page and a single question, and it asks for nothing more than that.

It is written for the woman who has been holding everyone else. The one who answers "I'm fine" because the true answer takes longer than anyone has. This is the place where the longer answer belongs.

Inside

Ninety conversations

Each one is a single page. A few sentences to sit with, one honest question, and open space in your own hand. No prompts to perform, no gratitude quotas, no charts to fill in.

They move gently — from the first unbearable weeks, through the strange ordinary days that follow, toward the mornings when memory arrives without knocking you over. Take one a day, one a month, or the same one seven times. There is no wrong pace, and nothing is missed by skipping ahead.

You do not have to be finished with anything to begin.

Open the journal

These pages aren’t worksheets.
They are quiet conversations.
Begin wherever your heart naturally begins.

A journal page titled Phase One — Naming the Loss.A journal page asking: Where does your story begin?A journal page asking: What has surprised you most about grief?
A sunlit reading chair beside an open window, with candles, a pale ranunculus, and a journal resting on the cushion.

Find a Quiet Place

Pour a cup of tea. Light a candle if you’d like. Then open to whichever page is asking for your attention today.

HELD was never designed to rush your healing. Only to keep you company while it unfolds.

I wish no one ever needed a journal like this.

But if you do, I hope it reminds you that you never have to carry grief alone.

About the author

Carolyn Clansy Miller, Ph.D.

For more than thirty years, Dr. Carolyn Clansy Miller has sat with people in life’s hardest moments—beside hospital beds, across counseling room chairs, and in conversations where there were no easy answers.

She wrote HELD because grief deserves more than advice. It deserves a place to be witnessed.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, she has learned that healing is rarely hurried. It unfolds one honest conversation at a time.

She hopes these pages become one of those conversations for you.
